Former Cameroon captain Rigobert Song is the new coach of the Central African national team

Central African Football Federation have named former Cameroon coach and legend Rigobert Song as the new coach for the Wildcats, the national men’s team of Central Africa Republic, AhotorSports can confirm.

Song’s appointment followed a recent visit to Bangui, Central African Republic capital located on the west bank of the Ubangi Riverobviously for the imminent take over.

The former Indomitable Lions coach succeeds  Swiss manager Raoul Savoy after three years in charge but failed to lead the Wildcats to the 2025AFCON later this year in Morocco.

Song returns to management after he was axed from his beloved the Indomitable Lions as the head coach last February 2024 after Cameroon were knocked out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the last 16 in January by eventual runners-up Nigeria.

The former Liverpool midfielder helped the Indomitable Lions to a dramatic play-off victory over Algeria in extra time to qualify for the Qatar World Cup when appointed in 2022.

Song as a Cameroon boss won only six of his 23 matches in charge, a 26% win rate.

Song is expected to put together a formidable team to face the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers resuming in March, 2025.
