Former Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Mr. Herbert Amponsah Mensah has blamed The Ghana Football Association [GFA] for the murderous incidence that characterized a Ghana Premier League fixture involving travelers Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Koromansah Park where the former lost by 1-0 on Sunday.
Players of both sides were seen in a heated brawl in the second half just approaching the hour mark where the game was still 0-0 after a sparring and uneventful first half.
Out of control, some fans invaded the pitch side to join the foray for the reason best known to them.
The ultimate darkness occurred when an Asante Kotoko traveling fan, Yaw Frimpong popularly known as ”Pooley” was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital after he was allegedly stabbed multiple times in the rib following altercation with some yet to know opposition fans.
Reacting to the news, the incumbent Rugby President shifted blames at the doorsteps of the Ghana Football Association indicating they are the organizers of the league and cannot run away from what happened at Nsoatre where human life was senselessly lost.
“I think we all have responsibility when we are in sports management and administration. We cannot have a situation where these sort of violence is allowed to occur,” he said.
”It would have been simmering before the match, it would have been simmering during the match. We heard the stories while the match is going on,” he added.
”Missiles and stones and objects being thrown on, clearly there was a lost of control,” he continued.
“Clearly, the circumstance leading up to, during the match was simply unacceptable and the organizers of it have ultimately going to take responsibility for where they are,” Mensah shared.
”The governing body [GFA] cannot run away from its responsibility where there is a lost of life.” he emphasized.
The Kumawu born businessman was appointed by Otumfuo Opoku Ware II in 1999 to serve as the CEO for Kotoko and had impactful four-year reign.
