Foreign Affairs Ministry: 90-Day Deadline for Completing Passport Applications on Old System

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced that all passport applications initiated under the old system must be finalized within 90 days to facilitate their transition to the newly implemented system.

In a statement issued on April 30, 2025, the Ministry urged applicants who have already booked appointments under the old system to honor their scheduled dates at designated Passport Application Centres (PACs) for biometric data capture. This directive follows the official shift from biometric passports to advanced chip-embedded passports on April 28, 2025.

Highlighting the progress of the transition, the Ministry disclosed that approximately 30,000 applications remain in the old system’s database, including 7,900 paid applications that are yet to be completed.

To streamline the process, applicants with incomplete applications have been reassured that they will not incur additional charges to finalize their submissions. They are advised to visit the new online portal, passport.mfa.gov.gh, and follow the platform’s prompts to complete their applications seamlessly.

Furthermore, the Ministry encouraged applicants who missed their biometric appointments on April 28 and 29, 2025, to visit their respective PACs promptly to proceed with their applications.

In its statement, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a smooth transition to the new passport system, which promises enhanced security and global acceptance. It called on all affected applicants to act swiftly to avoid any inconveniences as the new system becomes fully operational.

This initiative marks a significant step towards modernizing Ghana’s passport issuance processes and enhancing the nation’s travel documentation standards.
