Football Legends Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan Appointed Ambassadors for 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship

Two of Ghana’s most revered football icons, Abedi Ayew (Pele) and Asamoah Gyan, have been unveiled as Ambassadors for the upcoming 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship.

Scheduled to take place in Accra from April 21-26, 2025, the tournament promises to showcase the talents of young African footballers.

 

Abedi Pele, a three-time African Footballer of the Year, is celebrated for his exceptional skill, vision, and leadership on the pitch.

As former Captain of the Black Stars, Ghana’s national football team, he led the team to the 1992 African Cup of Nations finals and won the AFCON title in 1982.

Abedi Pele’s illustrious career extended beyond Ghana, with notable stints in European club football, playing for teams like Marseille and Lille.

 

Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, is a household name in African football. With an impressive record of 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars, he has consistently demonstrated his prowess as a clinical finisher.

Gyan’s career has spanned multiple continents, with stints in the English Premier League, Serie A, and the UAE Pro League. Notably, he served as an ambassador for the 2nd edition of the CAF African Schools Football Championship.

 

Both Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan have been dedicated to nurturing young football talents and giving back to their community. Abedi Pele’s Football Club, Nania FC, has produced several talented players who have gone on to represent Ghana at various levels.

Asamoah Gyan’s charitable initiatives, including the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, support underprivileged children and promote education and sports development.

 

As Ambassadors for the 2025 African Schools Championship, Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan will play a pivotal role in promoting the tournament, inspiring young players, and fostering the growth of youth football in Africa.

The 2025 African Schools Championship is scheduled to run from April 21-26, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
