A report by the Bono East Regional Health Directorate says in 2020 indicated that, the ratio of a doctor to patient was 18,287, with the situation worsening in in 2022 in the region.
Currently, the data stands at a doctor to 20,397 whilst after the first quarter of 2022 looks gloomier.
According to Dr Adomako Boateng, the Bono east regional health director, the Directorate intends to ensure a 1;7,500 ratio even though it sounds a daunting task.
Speaking to Ahotor news, Charles Agbeve, MP for Agotim –Ziope and member of Parliament Health Committee said, the issue of limited doctor to persons is a national issue under discussion in the House.
According to him, Greater Accra and Kumasi are the only regions that can be mentioned with about a 70% of the country’s population of doctors whilst others share 30%
He said the situation is like that because doctors posted to some of the regions do not get motivation in terms of accommodation, schools for their children and job placement for their wives and dependents.
He also mentioned that private doctors are mostly not able to be called in because the qualification in the country differs from what some of the doctors trained outside the country possess.
