Fishy manouvres at the EC HQ during balloting

The recent balloting for slots on the ballot paper for this year’s elections was marred by suspicious activities.

Watching from home, I was disturbed by the sight of individuals—including police officers and NPP party agents—milling around the high table where senior EC officials (Tettey and Bossman) were supervising the balloting.

We witnessed a commendable and spirited challenge from NDC representatives (General Secretary Fifi Kwetey and Director of Election in charge of IT Dr. Omane Boamah) regarding one of the balls used for the balloting process. After much debate, it was agreed that an opaque container would hold the balls containing the ballot numbers. Representatives picking the balls were to look away from the container and wait for instructions before opening them.

Unfortunately, the NPP and LPG agents chose to disregard this agreement. They defiantly peered into the container while picking their balls. In a blatant breach of protocol, the NPP agent opened his ball before the presiding official gave the instruction.

The situation was further compounded by several video footages circulating on social media, revealing possible ballot paper swaps between the NPP and LPG agents, with former NPP Chairman Peter Mac Manu appearing to facilitate these questionable dealings.

Just as VAR assists in football, the available footage can aid EC officials in reassessing the fairness of the balloting process that day. NDC agents and other honest participants present should call on the EC officials to review the footage. We cannot ignore the apparent irregularities witnessed by millions, including the officials themselves.

Are we going to approach the December 7 elections with an attitude of indifference?

Dear NDC, the world recognizes us as the viable alternative to the oppressive regime affecting the people of Ghana. We must closely scrutinize every move the NPP makes in collaboration with the Electoral Commission (EC) leading up to December 7 and beyond.

What transpired at the EC headquarters on September 20, 2024, requires thorough investigation. There is ample time to examine these events and take necessary actions.

We must curtail the deceitful tactics and the pervasive corruption that have come to define this current NPP administration. Taking decisive action now is crucial for the peace and stability essential for Ghana’s sustainable development.
