Fire Guts Labone Senior High School Girls’ Dormitory, Investigation Underway

A devastating fire broke out at Labone Senior High School in Accra on Sunday, March 16, 2025, gutting three girls’ dormitories. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the blaze, which occurred while students were attending their afternoon prep session.

The National Fire Service Public Relation Officer, Mr Alex King Nartey said they responded swiftly to the emergency, arriving at the scene within seven minutes. Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire, managing to bring it under control within 30 minutes. Their prompt action prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the dormitory.

Despite the successful containment of the fire, the damage was significant. One dormitory was completely destroyed, while two others suffered partial damage. The displaced students have been temporarily relocated to the school’s assembly hall.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the origin of the blaze. The National Fire Service is working closely with the school administration and local authorities to identify the root cause of the fire.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the school community, with students, teachers, and parents expressing relief that no lives were lost. The school administration has assured parents that measures are being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

As the investigation continues, the school community remains vigilant, hoping to prevent such incidents in the future. The fire has served as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need for regular drills and safety measures to be in place.
