In a significant stride toward enhancing Ghana’s revenue mobilisation efforts, the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson inaugurated the newly constituted Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on April 30, 2025. The event, hailed as “a defining moment” in the nation’s quest for revenue excellence, underscores the government’s commitment to accountability, innovation, and sustainable development.
The new Board, chaired by seasoned politician and financial expert Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, brings together a team of distinguished professionals with expertise in finance, governance, and public administration. Their collective mandate is to drive reforms that will modernise Ghana’s tax systems, improve efficiency, and promote transparency in revenue collection processes.
Dr. Forson, speaking at the ceremony, outlined the critical role of the GRA in Ghana’s economic transformation agenda. “This occasion marks the beginning of a bold journey towards building a more robust and sustainable revenue system. The challenges we face are significant, but with a Board of this calibre, I am confident we will achieve our development goals,” he stated.
He highlighted the importance of institutional capacity building and the modernisation of GRA operations as pivotal to the Board’s success. Dr. Forson also emphasised the need for collaboration, urging board members to foster a culture of teamwork and dedication to public service.
Chairman Ricketts-Hagan, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reiterate the Board’s commitment to upholding integrity and diligence in executing its mandate. “Public trust is paramount to our success. We must engage all stakeholders, widen the tax net, and promote a culture of voluntary compliance to ensure fairness and efficiency in revenue collection,” he remarked.
The ceremony serves as a clarion call for transformative leadership within the GRA. As Ghana faces economic challenges, the new Board’s focus on innovation and strategic reforms is expected to play a pivotal role in mobilising domestic resources, reducing dependency on external financing, and driving sustainable growth.
This inauguration signifies more than just the appointment of a new leadership team; it represents a renewed vision for Ghana’s economic resilience, with the GRA at the forefront of the nation’s development agenda.
