Chris Hughton has expressed his delight at his appointment as Ghana’s Technical Advisor ahead of next month’s FIFA World Cup play-offs against Nigeria.
The Irish-born has rubbished reports in the local media that he wasn’t contacted for his new role at Black Stars.
In an interview with UK based tabloid Chronicle Live, Hughton disclosed that he is now a member of the Black Stars technical team after being without a club since September last year.
The 63-year-old stated that he will not be working with Ghana as head coach of the senior team but only acting on an interim basis in the capacity of a Technical Advisor.
Hughton said: “Yes, and I have a lot of energy.
“I am going to be involved with Ghana.
“My father hailed from Ghana and Ghana has two World Cup play-off games against Nigeria.
“I am involved in that.
“There is a coach but I have the title of technical advisor and my role will be to support the coach and the staff for these two games.
“But I am very much looking to get back and have a lot to offer.”
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) earlier this month announced a new structure for the senior national team of which will be headed by Otto Addo with Mas-ud Didi Dramani and George Boateng as assistant coaches whiles Hughton fills the Technical Advisor role
Ghana will battle out with Nigeria in March in a double header play off for a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup
