FIFA Pays Tribute to Ghanaian Football Legend Mfum and Nana Pooley

The 75th FIFA Congress in Asunción, Paraguay, observed a minute of silence on May 15, 2025, to honor the legacies of Wilberforce Mfum and Francis Yaw Frimpong (Nana Pooley).

 

Wilberforce Mfum, a legendary Ghanaian striker, passed away on May 11 at 88. He was instrumental in Ghana’s historic 1963 Africa Cup of Nations win, scoring crucial goals, including in the final. Mfum had a distinguished career, playing for the Black Stars, Asante Kotoko, and international clubs.

 

Nana Pooley, a passionate Asante Kotoko supporter and member of the club’s Supporters’ Communication Team, tragically lost his life on February 2, 2025, during a Ghana Premier League match. His dedication to Ghanaian football was recognized globally.

 

The minute of silence during the FIFA Congress served as a poignant tribute to Mfum and Nana Pooley’s contributions to Ghanaian football, acknowledging their impact on the sport.
