FIFA Observes Solemn Tribute to Crans-Montana Fire Victims

Today, at the Home of FIFA in Zurich, a profound moment of silence was observed, accompanied by deep respect and solemn reflection, in honor of the 40 young lives tragically lost and the many others severely injured in the devastating fire that swept through Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana during the early hours of New Year’s Day 2026.

This heartbreaking disaster, which unfolded amid what should have been joyful celebrations welcoming the new year, claimed victims mostly in their teens and early twenties—including numerous minors—from Switzerland, France, Italy, and several other nations.

The blaze, believed to have started when lit sparklers on champagne bottles came too close to a highly flammable ceiling, rapidly engulfed the crowded venue, leaving behind unimaginable grief for families, friends, and entire communities.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences remain steadfast with all those directly impacted by this catastrophe: the bereaved families enduring unbearable loss, the survivors facing painful recoveries from severe burns and trauma, the first responders who bravely risked their lives, and the close-knit residents of Crans-Montana whose world has been forever changed.

Switzerland, and indeed the wider world, continues to mourn alongside you during this time of national sorrow, as marked by today’s observances and the recent national day of mourning.

FIFA stands in solidarity, remembering the victims with the utmost reverence and hoping that lessons learned will help prevent such a tragedy from ever occurring again. May their memory inspire compassion, unity, and healing in the days ahead.
