FIFA Announces Bidding Process for 2031 and 2035 Women’s World Cup

The FIFA Council has approved the bidding regulations for the 2031 and 2035 editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. In a move to promote regional diversity, the council has invited specific FIFA Member Associations to bid for each edition.

Brazil however has been handed the hosting rights of the 2027 edition as confirmed by FIFA Council in Zurich on Wednesday.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup has come a long way since its inception in 1991. The tenth edition of the tournament, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, promises to be an exciting and historic event.

For the first time, Brazil will host the tournament, marking a significant milestone as the first South American host nation.

Scheduled to take place from June 24 to July 25, 2027, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 will feature 32 nations competing for the coveted title. This expansion from the original 12 teams in 1991 demonstrates the tournament’s growing popularity and the increasing competitiveness of women’s football globally.

The competition has been held every four years since its debut in China. Over the years, the tournament has had seven different hosts, showcasing the diversity and reach of women’s football.

2031 Edition: CAF and Concacaf Members Invited
For the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup, member associations from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Confederation of North, Central America, and the Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) are eligible to bid.

2035 Edition: CAF and UEFA Members Invited
For the 2035 edition, member associations from CAF and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) are invited to bid.

Host Selection in 2026
The host countries for both editions are expected to be announced at the 76th FIFA Congress in Q2 2026.

This decision marks an exciting milestone in the growth of women’s football, and FIFA looks forward to receiving bids from interested member associations.
