The victim, a year-two student, was rushed to the Kwadaso SDA Hospital and later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
The shooting happened on Friday morning, April 4, 2025, after a lesson when the suspect, Bernard Amoabeng, displayed a pistol in class. The gun went off, injuring the female student. Amoabeng allegedly brought the gun to school, sparking an argument with classmates over whether it was functional.
The Suame District Police arrested the suspect, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering witness statements to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
The incident has raised concerns about campus safety and security measures in Ghanaian schools. Many are questioning how the student obtained the weapon and calling for stricter control over access to firearms. The school administration is cooperating with the investigation and offering counseling services to affected students.
