The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has noted that Coca-Cola Belgium has recalled certain products due to safety concerns.
Reports indicate that the recall, which spans across Europe, was initiated because of high levels of chlorate detected in the affected beverages.
The recalled products include bottled Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Tropico, Minute Maid, as well as canned Appletiser, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Diet Coke, and Sprite Zero.
These products bear production codes ranging from 328 GE to 338 GE, which can be found at the base of the cans. The recall covers products manufactured between 23rd November and 3rd December 2024.
The FDA wishes to assure the public that no such products from Belgium have been registered for sale in Ghana or officially imported through designated entry points from November 2023 to date.
Additionally, market surveillance has found no trace of these recalled items from Belgium in Ghanaian stores.
For clarity, consumers should note that the only FDA-registered imported Coca-Cola products in Ghana originate from Algeria, Liberia, South Africa, Tunisia, Nigeria, the UK, the USA, and Canada. Locally produced Coca-Cola beverages include Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, and Lime-Lemon, all of which adhere to strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards before FDA registration.
The FDA remains committed to continuous monitoring and surveillance, in collaboration with other agencies, to ensure the safety of products on the Ghanaian market. Anyone who comes across Coca-Cola products from Belgium is urged to report immediately to the nearest FDA office.
