Ghanaian music sensation, Fameye, has once again etched his name into the annals of Ghana’s music history by winning the Highlife Artist of the Year at the just-ended Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) held on Saturday, May 11, 2025.
Born Peter Famiyeh Bozah, the “Praise” hitmaker beat stiff competition from seasoned highlife stalwarts to claim the coveted title, solidifying his place as one of the leading voices in modern Ghanaian highlife music.
His heartfelt storytelling, authentic instrumentation, and relatable lyrics have made him a household name and a torchbearer of contemporary highlife.
Fameye’s rise to fame is nothing short of inspirational. Emerging from humble beginnings in Bogoso, Western Region, he first caught national attention as a contestant on MTN Hitmaker Season 3. Though he didn’t win the competition, Fameye used the platform as a springboard to launch a successful solo career.
His breakout hit, “Nothing I Get”, released in 2019, resonated deeply with fans across Ghana and beyond. The song’s raw emotion and philosophical reflections on life and struggle showcased his unique ability to blend Afrobeats, highlife, and hiplife into a soul-stirring fusion.
Since then, Fameye has released several hit songs including “Long Life”, “Praise”, “Mati”, and “Thank You”, many of which draw from the rich well of Ghanaian highlife tradition.
Fameye has been a consistent nominee at the Ghana Music Awards over the past few years, gaining recognition in categories such as Songwriter of the Year, Best New Artist, and Most Popular Song. However, this year’s victory in the Highlife Artist of the Year category is a particularly significant milestone. It reflects not only his artistic growth but also his commitment to preserving and evolving Ghana’s musical heritage.
In his acceptance speech, a visibly emotional Fameye thanked God, his fans, and his team for their unwavering support. “This award means a lot to me because highlife is the soul of our music. I’m proud to be part of its journey into the future,” he said.
As highlife music continues to evolve, Fameye stands tall among those keeping its flame alive for the next generation.
