Fake Soldier Arrested in Bolgatanga Over Military Recruitment Scam

In a decisive operation by the 11 Mechanised Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces, a 29-year-old man posing as a senior military officer has been arrested in Bolgatanga for orchestrating a fraudulent recruitment scheme.

The suspect, identified as Jeffery Solomon Darko, was apprehended on April 16 at around 2:00 pm. Acting on credible intelligence, military operatives executed a swift operation to bring him into custody after he allegedly attempted to swindle yet another victim under the pretence of offering recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces.

Darko reportedly posed as a Warrant Officer Class One from the prestigious 3rd Infantry Battalion. Using this fabricated identity, he promised potential recruits guaranteed enlistment, demanding a facilitation fee of $150 or its cedi equivalent. One of his victims, whose identity has been withheld, is said to have paid GHC1,000 to secure what turned out to be a bogus opportunity.

Upon his arrest, military operatives retrieved GHC1,000 in cash, believed to be the victim’s payment, as well as two smartphones allegedly used to orchestrate his fraudulent activities. The suspect, along with the confiscated items, has since been handed over to the Bolgatanga District Police for further investigation and prosecution.

This incident has prompted the Ghana Armed Forces to reiterate its warning to the public about the dangers of engaging with unauthorized individuals promising military recruitment. Officials emphasize that all recruitment processes are conducted through officially sanctioned channels, and any deviations are fraudulent and illegal.

The Armed Forces has also called on citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious recruitment schemes to the nearest military or police authority. This timely intervention not only safeguards potential victims but also reinforces the message that impersonating security officials and preying on public trust will not be tolerated.

As investigations continue, this arrest serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened public awareness and cooperation in combatting fraudulent activities. The Ghana Armed Forces remain committed to protecting the integrity of its institution and ensuring that justice is served.
