EXCLUSIVE: Asante Kotoko Open Talks to Sign Hearts of Oak Goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi

Asante Kotoko have entered discussions over a potential move for Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi, with the Ghana international emerging as a key target for the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the upcoming season.

Sources close to the negotiations indicate that Kotoko have initiated talks with the highly-rated shot-stopper as they seek to bolster their goalkeeping department for the new campaign.

Although discussions are progressing positively, no agreement has yet been reached and negotiations remain ongoing. Nevertheless, there is increasing optimism that a deal could be struck if all parties are able to reach a mutual understanding in the coming weeks.

Agbasi is approaching the end of his contract with Hearts of Oak, a situation that has attracted interest from several clubs. His availability on a free transfer has made him one of the most sought-after goalkeepers on the domestic market.

The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the Ghana Premier League’s most reliable goalkeepers in recent seasons, earning plaudits for his commanding presence, excellent shot-stopping ability and calmness under pressure. His consistent performances have also earned him recognition at international level.

Agbasi is currently with the Black Stars squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he is serving as Ghana’s standby goalkeeper ahead of the team’s Round of 32 encounter against Colombia.

While his immediate focus remains on national team duties, developments regarding his club future are expected to gather pace once Ghana’s World Cup campaign comes to an end.

Should the move eventually materialise, it would rank among the most significant transfers of the Ghanaian transfer window, given the fierce rivalry between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. A switch directly between the two traditional giants is a rarity and would undoubtedly generate widespread discussion among supporters.

For now, talks continue behind the scenes, with Kotoko keen to secure the services of the experienced goalkeeper. However, no deal has been finalised, and further negotiations are expected before any official announcement is made.
