Former Executive Secretary to the Inspector General of Police(IGP) has reminded the Police and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Wa West Constituency, Superintendent Peter Lanchene Tuubo says, the work of a police is to protect the life of citizens and prevent crimes, and not to protest and molest citizens.
‘As a police, your work is to determine when there is peace and calm among citizens and in a society, when there is chaos and conflict it is the work of the police to ensure that peace reigns.
The Superintendent in an interview said this in response to the death of a black American who was molested by some police officers in the United States of America (USA).
“May 25 2020 Minneapolis police officers arrested a 46 year old black American George Floyd, after a Deli employee called 911, accusing him of buying a cigarettes with a counterfeit $20. Seventeen minutes after the first squad car arrived at the scene, Mr Floyd was unconscious and pinned beneath three police officers, showing no sign of life”
He also added that as a police your work is to ensure peace, order and enforce that citizens obey the law. Policing is not about making noise and firing gun shots rather it’s the absence of crime in society.
