The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to address the poor state of roads in the Afram Plains, promising significant infrastructural improvements if elected.
Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd in Donkorkrom as part of his Eastern Regional tour, Mr. Mahama expressed his astonishment at the persistent neglect of the area’s roads despite repeated government declarations of a “Year of Roads.”
“It surprises me that every year is declared the ‘Year of Roads,’ yet the roads in the Afram Plains remain in a deplorable state,” he remarked. “Are the people of Afram Plains not part of Ghana? Be patient. When the NDC wins this election, we will fix all your bad roads.”
John Mahama emphasized his commitment to prioritizing the Afram Plains, even amidst economic challenges.
“Even though our financial situation is not the best, if we can construct just one road, it will be yours,” he assured.
Beyond infrastructure, Mr. Mahama outlined his vision for bolstering agriculture in the Afram Plains.
Recognizing the region’s agricultural potential, he promised to establish an Agriculture University tailored to the needs of local farmers.
“With the significant agricultural activity in the Afram Plains, this area deserves an Agriculture University,” he declared.
The former president also unveiled plans to create a Special Agro-Processing Zone in the Afram Plains.
This initiative would encourage the establishment of agro-processing factories operating 24 hours a day, boosting employment and stimulating the local economy.
“Our goal is to attract investors to open more factories in this region. These factories will run around the clock, creating jobs and transforming Afram Plains into a hub of agricultural and industrial activity,” he explained.
John Mahama’s promises were met with applause and optimism from residents, who have long yearned for improved infrastructure and development in their communities.
With these commitments, the NDC flagbearer aims to deliver tangible improvements that will enhance the lives of the people in the Afram Plains.
