Ghanaian Afro-soul sensation Ess Thee Legend shook the gospel table with a statement that full time church singers and instrumentalists should be paid.
According to her, churches must paid full-time singers and instrumentalists, because many of them dedicate their entire time and energy to the work of ministry — and it’s their primary source of livelihood.
“If they have chosen not to take anything for their work and are simply volunteers helping with Kingdom efforts, that’s fine. However, if this is their profession—if they spend all their time in church rehearsing, ministering, and supporting services and events—they should be compensated for their efforts,” Ess Thee Legend stated passionately.
Spirituality is important, but it shouldn’t be used as an excuse to exploit gifted individuals who serve consistently in church settings.
Ess Thee Legend, known for blending conscious messages with soulful rhythms, is no stranger to bold opinions. And today, he used his voice not just to entertain, but to advocate.
This topic has been under discussion for a while, and it could significantly influence the future of church music in Ghana if churches are willing to embrace it.
