EPA CEO Urges Savannah Residents to Adopt Eco-Friendly Packaging Ahead of Styrofoam Ban

The Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, has urged residents of the Savannah Region to adopt environmentally friendly food packaging alternatives ahead of Ghana’s planned ban on styrofoam products.

She made the appeal during a public sensitisation exercise in the region, where she highlighted the environmental and potential health risks associated with styrofoam waste.

Prof. Klutse said the planned ban forms part of the government’s broader efforts to tackle plastic pollution, improve waste management and promote sustainable environmental practices.

She encouraged food vendors, traders and consumers to begin switching to biodegradable and reusable packaging materials to support the implementation of the policy.

The Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Yussif Bia Wurbe, also expressed support for the proposed ban, describing it as a measure aimed at protecting public health and the environment.

He urged residents to cooperate with the authorities and adopt environmentally responsible practices to help maintain a cleaner and healthier region.

The sensitisation exercise forms part of broader efforts to address the environmental challenges associated with plastic waste and encourage the adoption of sustainable packaging alternatives across the country.
