The Acting CEO of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, has called on plastic producers to explore alternative packaging solutions as the agency moves forward with plans to ban the use of plastics in Ghana.
Speaking on the issue, Prof. Klutse emphasized the urgent need for sustainable packaging options to reduce plastic pollution, which continues to pose a serious threat to the environment and public health.
She urged manufacturers to proactively invest in biodegradable and eco-friendly alternatives before the ban takes effect.
“The impact of plastic waste on our environment is undeniable, and it is time for us to take decisive action. We are engaging stakeholders, including manufacturers and businesses, to transition towards more sustainable packaging options,” she stated.
As part of the EPA’s strategy, the authority will roll out an extensive public education campaign to create awareness about the upcoming plastic ban, its implications, and the benefits of switching to environmentally friendly alternatives. This initiative will target businesses, consumers, and policymakers to ensure a smooth transition.
