Fred Forson, leader of the Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold, is urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a comprehensive forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the 2024 elections, asserting that if the EC has nothing to hide, such an audit should be welcomed.
His call follows growing concerns, particularly from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), about the credibility of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) as the nation prepares for the upcoming general elections.
In response to the NDC’s apprehensions, the EC proposed a meeting with the party on September 6, 2024, as part of an ongoing dialogue aimed at addressing issues related to the voter exhibition exercise.
However, during an interview on Ahotor FM’s morning show Adekyee Mu Nsem with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Mr. Forson voiced his concerns, accusing the EC of creating the current flaws in the voter register and questioning their capacity to fix these problems impartially.
Mr. Forson emphasized that the NDC, along with other political stakeholders, is ready to offer assistance to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
He suggested that in the interest of transparency, experts from all the major political parties should be involved in overseeing the audit to prevent any manipulation of the register.
In a more alarming statement, Fred Forson raised the possibility that some individuals may have gained access to secret codes within the EC’s system, potentially tampering with the voter register in ways that could skew the outcome of the December elections.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Forson urged the EC to act with openness and fairness, stressing that the integrity of the electoral process is crucial to maintaining the peace and stability of the country during this critical time.
He called on the EC to rise above suspicion and ensure that the 2024 general elections are conducted transparently, free of any undue influence or interference
