Emergency Maintenance at Tema Substation to Cause Temporary Power Outage

The Ghana Grid Company LTD. has announced that it will carry out emergency maintenance works at the Smelter II Substation in Tema on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, as part of efforts to improve power supply reliability and strengthen the country’s electricity transmission network.

According to a press statement issued by the company’s Corporate Communications Section, the maintenance exercise is necessary to enhance the resilience of the transmission system and ensure stable electricity delivery to customers.

GRIDCo stated that the maintenance works will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., during which some residents and customers in parts of Tema are expected to experience temporary power interruptions.

The company expressed regret over the inconvenience the exercise may cause but assured the public that engineers and technical teams will work swiftly to complete the maintenance within the shortest possible time to restore power supply promptly.

GRIDCo further appealed to affected customers to cooperate and bear with the temporary disruption, emphasizing that the exercise forms part of broader measures aimed at ensuring a more reliable electricity transmission system across the country.

In the statement, GRIDCo reiterated its role as Ghana’s national electricity transmission company responsible for transmitting power from wholesale suppliers, including Independent Power Producers and the Volta River Authority, to bulk customers and distribution utilities in Ghana and parts of West Africa.
