In a bold move to arrest their alarming slide, Eleven Wonders FC have officially unveiled experienced Ghanaian coach Josef Emmanuel Sarpong as their new head coach, with the appointment taking effect immediately.
The announcement, made via the club’s official channels on Sunday, November 2, 2025, signals a fresh chapter for the newly-promoted outfit amid a torrid beginning to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
Sarpong, a household name in Ghanaian football circles with more than 15 years of coaching pedigree, inherits a squad desperate for revival.
The 65-year-old tactician is tasked with steering Wonders away from the relegation zone after a dismal start that has seen them accrue a mere two points from seven matches – one of the worst records in the league’s history for a promoted side.
Sitting perilously close to the bottom of the 16-team table, Wonders have drawn two games and lost five, scoring just three goals while conceding 12. Their inability to secure a victory has heightened fears of an immediate return to the Division One League.
The decision to part ways with predecessor Nii Odartey Lamptey was mutual, according to club sources, following a string of lackluster performances that exposed defensive frailties and a lack of attacking cohesion.
Lamptey, a former Ghana international and Black Stars legend, had been at the helm since the club’s promotion last season but could not translate pre-season optimism into results.
His departure comes after a particularly humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Bechem United in Matchweek 7, which proved the final straw for the board.
Stepping into the hot seat is Sarpong, whose resume reads like a blueprint for turnaround success. Known for his pragmatic 4-2-3-1 formations, emphasis on disciplined defending, and knack for developing young talent, Sarpong has a proven track record of elevating underperforming teams.
His most notable achievements include guiding Liberty Professionals to promotion in the early 2010s and leading BA United to a Ghana FA Cup semi-final appearance. More recently, he orchestrated a mid-table finish for Karela United despite limited resources, earning praise for his man-management skills and tactical flexibility.
“Coach Sarpong brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality that our squad urgently needs,” said Eleven Wonders FC Chairman, Mr. Kwaku Duah, in the official statement. “We are confident that his leadership will instill discipline, unity, and a fighting spirit. Our goal is clear: stabilize the team, climb the table, and ensure Premier League survival.”
