Electoral Commission Warns Recalcitrant Officials

The Electoral Commission in its second and latest electoral update, has cautioned its officers to abide by the electoral laws of the country.

There have been a number of reports of irregularities by some EC officials in the conduct of the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in the opening five hours of the exercise-something that have caused the arrest of some officials by the Ghana Police at some Polling Stations.

Reacting to the incidence that led to the arrest of Mr. Dery Joseph-An EC Official for tearing off 15 ballot papers at the Kintampo South Constituency in the Bono East Region, the Elections Organizing body Electoral Commission says it will cooperate with the Police to get the bottom of the matter and goes on to warn that any official who fails to adhere to the accepted electoral rules will be prosecuted.

Joseph, who was assigned to issue ballot papers at the Temporary Booth Bayiri Polling Station in the Techiman South District is said to have torn off the head of the Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia while issuing the ballot papers to some fifteen voters.
