Election 2024: Be decorous in your campaigns – Catholic Bishops’ to political parties

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has urged all political parties to ensure respect and decorum in their respective campaigns ahead of the December 7 elections.

The Catholic Bishops, in an address to Ghanaians ahead of the elections, indicated that all the relevant stakeholders in the upcoming polls must prioritise the peace and serenity of the country and avoid inflammatory rhetoric that can endanger the current democratic sphere.

“We feel compelled to address all stakeholders involved in this all-important democratic exercise to emphasise our collective responsibility in ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and fair electoral process.

“As we approach this critical period in our nation’s democratic journey, it is essential for every sector to play its role with integrity and dedication,” the Catholic Bishops’ said in an address by its president, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi.

The Bishops further urged political parties to submit themselves and “respect the laws governing elections and political conduct” to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

“We urge all political parties to conduct their ongoing campaigns with respect for democratic values and the dignity of all individuals.

“Political discourse should be rooted in constructive dialogue and a commitment to the common good. We call on all parties to avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and to respect the laws governing elections and political conduct.”
