Barcelona produced a stunning performance as they thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 at the Bernabeu.
Both sides made lively starts by taking turns to apply pressure high up the pitch. However, both squandered some big opportunities to take the lead early on. It was the visitors who struck first.
Ousmane Dembele breezed past Nacho down the right and delivered a pinpoint cross for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to head home just before the half-hour mark. Dembele turned provider once again as he delivered a corner which Ronald Araujo rose highest to head into the back of the net 38 minutes in.
Xavi’s side came out of the blocks swiftly and added another just two minutes after the break. Frankie de Jong played in Aubameyang, who flicked it back for Ferran Torres to curl past Thibaut Courtois.
The Bernabeu was stunned again in the 51st minute. Ferran controlled a long ball from the back and found Aubameyang, who looped it over Courtois. The offside flag went up almost immediately but after a VAR check, the goal was given.
The result puts Barcelona 12 points behind their fierce rivals, who stay nine clear of second-placed Sevilla.
