Education has no disadvantage – Enroll your child early – Counsellor Fenyi advices
An educationist and a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) ,Accra, Counselor Daniel Fenyi has said that early childhood education is a very sensitive level when it comes to education.
According to him, education has no disadvantage and the very reason parents must not take it for granted.
He said though education is expensive literally it an all good investment to venture into.
Speaking on Yendwuma with Ahma Baidoo, he indicated that early childhood education forms the foundation for a child, and a wrong start would have an impact on the child same applies to a good start. When choosing a school for an early childhood education, it must be chosen wisely” he said.
Early childhood, which spans the period up to 8 years of age, is critical for cognitive, social, emotional and physical development.
Early childhood (birth to age 5), middle childhood (ages 6 to 12), and adolescence (ages 13 to 18) are three major stages of child development.
According to him, in legal terms, a child should start school from the age of 5 with assumption that by age 6 he would be in primary one. But for private institutions, they have preschool, crèche and kindergarten so in this case a child can be enrolled at the age of 2- 8.
He also stated that, children should stay home till age 4 in other to attain their L1 (Native language). Home training is also important in the upbringing of the child.
