Edmund Addo Set to miss Nigeria Clash Due to Injury 

FC Sheriff Tiraspol’s midfielder Edmund Addo has been ruled out of Ghana’s World Cup play-off against Nigeria after sustaining an injury.

The defensive midfielder suffered a knee injury during his side’s league game against Sfintul Gheorghe over the weekend The Black Stars will face the Super Eagles in a two-legged game for a place at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year 

Ghana international Edmund Addo is set to miss the crucial World Cup play-off against Nigeria later this week. The Black Stars will face the Super Eagles in a gigantic encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday with the second leg of the play-offs set to be played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on March 29th.

Ahead of the game, football ghana has reported that FC Sheriff Tiraspol’s midfielder, Addo, has been ruled out of the gigantic clash after he sustained an injury during his side’s league game against Sfintul Gheorghe în Moldova’s top-tier league on Sunday.

Addo landed at the Black Stars camp on Monday and underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan to examine the extent of the injury under the supervision of the Ghana medical staff. 

However, the results of the MRI scan revealed that the 21-year-old defensive midfielder will not be available for selection in the next double-header against Nigeria. His absence will be a big blow for the coach Otto Addo, despite having the best central midfielders – Thomas Partey and Baba Iddrisu – in their fold. 

The Black Stars held their first training session in Kumasi on Tuesday ahead of their blockbuster World Cup play-off against Nigeria on Friday, 25th February. 

The team led by coach Otto Addo arrived in Kumasi on Tuesday afternoon and wasted no time training a few hours later as preparations continued for the big game. In photos posted on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, the players took to Baba Yara Stadium for the first time in five years, with their last appearance at the stadium coming against Congo on September 1, 2017.
