The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to begin a nationwide meter audit next week as part of efforts to improve service delivery, verify customer information and address complaints from electricity consumers.
The exercise is expected to cover customers across the country, with the power distributor seeking to strengthen its operations and make it easier for consumers to resolve issues relating to their electricity meters.
ECG’s Accra West Regional General Manager, Ing. Bismark Otoo, said the exercise would also involve the verification of field staff to help customers establish the identities of personnel who visit their homes and business premises.
According to him, the staff verification component is intended to improve transparency and help customers distinguish authorised ECG personnel from individuals who may falsely present themselves as company officials.
Ing. Otoo further explained that field officers would use handheld devices during the exercise to address some customer complaints on the spot. The use of the devices is expected to speed up the resolution of issues and reduce delays associated with reporting and processing complaints.
The nationwide meter audit forms part of ECG’s broader efforts to enhance customer experience and improve operational efficiency. Customers are expected to cooperate with authorised field officers while taking steps to verify their identities before providing access to their premises or meter installations.
