The Tema Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has replaced fourteen (14) faulty transformers across its operational area as part of efforts to improve electricity supply and enhance service reliability for customers.
The replacement exercise, which took place from 28th October to 1st November 2026, involved transformers with capacities ranging from 100kVA to 200kVA. The transformers had developed faults, resulting in disruptions to electricity supply to affected customers.
The exercise was undertaken to strengthen the Region’s High and Medium Voltage networks and improve the reliability of electricity distribution within its operational area.

The Tema Region operates through nine (9) Districts, six (6) of which benefited from the exercise. These are Krobo, Ada, Prampram, Afienya, Tema North and Nungua.
Commenting on the exercise, the Tema Regional General Manager, Ing. Jonathan K. Adjabeng, explained that the Region had experienced challenges with electricity supply due to faulty transformers, some of which had developed faults as a result of technical challenges and illegal connections.
“We have had challenges with supply due to faulty transformers, some of which became faulty due to technical challenges and illegal connections,” he said.
He reaffirmed the Region’s commitment to its mandate of providing safe, reliable and quality electricity to customers.
“The Region takes its mandate of supplying safe, reliable and quality electricity seriously, and we are committed to that,” he added.
Ing. Adjabeng further acknowledged that certain issues beyond the Company’s control sometimes hinder its efforts but stressed that the Region remained committed to addressing challenges and improving service delivery.
“However, our commitment to our duty is sometimes hindered by issues beyond our control. Yet, our commitment to resolving issues and surmounting challenges remains paramount to us,” he stated.
The Tema Region has reiterated its commitment to addressing operational challenges and strengthening its distribution network to ensure safe, reliable and quality electricity supply to customers across its operational area.
