EC Nears Completion of NPP Presidential Primary Ballots Ahead of January 31 Flagbearer Election

The Electoral Commission (EC) is expected to complete the printing of ballot papers for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary by Thursday as preparations intensify for the party’s flagbearer election scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The printing process, which commenced on Tuesday, January 20, forms a critical part of logistical arrangements aimed at ensuring a transparent, credible and efficient internal election in which delegates will select the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

To guarantee accountability and prevent irregularities, the exercise is being conducted under strict supervision by EC officials, NPP leadership representatives and accredited agents of all presidential aspirants.

The EC disclosed this during a stakeholder meeting with party executives and representatives of the aspirants held in Accra on Monday.

Speaking in an interview, the Secretary of the Presidential Election Committee, Mr William Yamoah, explained that the primary forms part of broader internal reforms designed to strengthen the party’s electoral systems. He noted that key preparatory activities—including exhibition and verification of the delegates’ register—have already been successfully completed.

He further revealed that the ballot printing will run on a 24-hour schedule in three shifts, with each aspirant deploying six agents to monitor the process throughout the exercise. According to him, the production of ballot albums is also underway under the watch of the aspirants’ representatives, reinforcing transparency at every stage of the operation.

With the countdown to the primary underway, the EC expressed confidence that the measures in place will deliver a credible process that reflects the will of party delegates.
