Chief Nana Kwabena Ofori II of Akroso has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure fairness, transparency, and integrity in the upcoming general elections.
He urged the EC to handle the electoral process with caution, so the final results are clear and undisputed, emphasizing that the public deserves to know the exact margin of victory.
Speaking at Akroso during John Mahama’s #Mahama4Change2024 tour in the Eastern Region, Chief Ofori II referenced the 2020 election results, pointing out lingering concerns over the transparency of the vote count, particularly regarding the number of votes secured by the ruling party.
He emphasized that the EC has a crucial role in maintaining peace throughout the election period, adding, “The right steps must be taken, and no one should even consider tampering with the results.”
During John Mahama’s visit, the chief also highlighted pressing needs in the Akroso community, including improvements in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and job creation.
He appealed to Mr. Mahama, should he win, to address these critical areas.
In response, John Dramani Mahama assured the chief and the community that, if elected, he would work on upgrading the local polyclinic to a hospital, improving the cocoa industry, and creating more job opportunities for the youth.
He promised to prioritize the community’s needs as part of his broader commitment to national development.
