EC must allow live coverage of proceedings at IPAC meeting – Omane Boamah

Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Omane Boamah has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to permit live media broadcasts of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting set for October 1, 2024.

In a letter dated September 28,2024, the EC sent an invitation to political parties for an IPAC meeting which will take place on October 1, 2024 at the Corporate Head Office of the EC. The meeting will focus on the 2024 voters register, and AOB.

In a Facebook post dated September 30, 2024, Dr. Boamah stressed the need for transparency, advocating for Ghanaians to be updated on the discussions as they happen. “The EC must allow the media to provide live coverage of the proceedings at the IPAC meeting,” he stated, noting that this would help prevent misinformation and ensure that accurate information reaches the public.

He also highlighted the NDC’s demand for a forensic audit of the voters’ register and its IT systems, asserting that such issues cannot be fully resolved in the IPAC meeting. Boamah revealed ongoing problems with the register, despite the EC’s recent corrections, stating, “The truth is, #EAGLEEYES intercepted information shows as at yesterday, the Electoral Commission was still struggling to resolve voters whose names are still missing from the voters register.”

Dr. Boamah further cautioned that unresolved voter data manipulation could resurface before the December 7, 2024 elections. “Until the criminals who deliberately manipulated voters’ data for electoral gain are identified and smoked out, the same errors can recur,” he warned.
