EC MUST ADHERE TO THE OPINIONS OF IPAC COMMITTEE MEMBERS – LPG

The General Secretary of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) Mr. Owusu Akpaloo said there is a need for all stakeholders in election management committee opinions working with the electoral commission matters in this critical time as we head to 2024 crucial presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said it has become necessary for the chairperson of the electoral commission Madam, Jean Mensah to respect and adhere to the needs and contributions of Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) members. He further stated that members of the IPAC are major stakeholders of the election process and all dialogue and decisions taken at a committee meeting must be respected. Mr. Owusu Akpaloo says this on the Ahotor FM morning show in Accra.
He opined that it’s very unfortunate to see the chair of the EC take a unilateral decision on issues he thinks bind all members of the committee where the EC seeks to change the course of national electoral assignment, which he thinks in its opinion can degenerate into confusion and can likely disenfranchise some prospective potential new voters in the new voter registration exercise.
In another development, the deputy electoral commissioner Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, says it does not anticipate any challenges in its decision to undertake the upcoming limited voter registration exercise at its district offices across the country.
He said the limited voter registration exercise is scheduled to commence on September 12, 2023, to October 2, 2023, at its 268 district offices across the country.
According to the NDC, the decision by the EC to restrict the exercise to its district offices was to enable the electoral management body to suppress votes and rig the 2024 polls. It said it was for that reason that it had joined forces with four other political parties to sue the EC over the exercise.
The other four parties include the Convention People’s Party (CPP), the All People’s Congress, the Liberal Party of Ghana, and the Great Consolidated Popular Party.
