The Electoral Commissioner Madam Jean Mensah will continue to put up this belligerent posture, since she is accountable to his appointing authority the president and not Ghanaians. Above all the court is behind her since the same executive power; acts to control these two strong institutions which are behind her in the course of her duties.
The editor of Plainspoken Advisor Mr. Charles McCarthy made this statement on the SIMPIESO political show on Ahotor FM in Accra. He is of the view that, the hijack of the courts and the Electoral Commission (EC) is a strategic political dynamics fit into their political agenda to remain in power.
By not responding to the court injunction, she knew very well that, her role at the electoral commission is nothing to drive home to listen to the views of anybody or institution’s, since the president is behind her.
He went further to reiterate that, the independent of the commission is very subjective, since she is obliged, to work with holders in election management to help ensure fairness in all her decision which has to do with election.
Mr. Charles McCarthy is of the view that election is a process and there is a need for the commission to improve on its previous work year in year out in all elections activities. Going forward, he questions the decision of the EC to use 268 districts EC offices throughout the country for this exercise forgetting that, in the previous year’s registration; the commission created 1,500 centers, then why is preventing the EC not to create more centers to work on the two years backlog of continue registration of new voters into the register who don’t have the chance to carry out their civic duties.
He therefore called on the opposition party the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to change their strategy by strengthening their approach in tackling national issues since their followers are getting disappointed, since the reality with economic challenges is calling for change. And the NDC must work hard to bring hope and aspiration to its supporters.
The former Youth Organiser of the Ayawaso West Constituency Kwadwo Yeboah said, it’s very unfortunate why the government cannot come in to direct the EC to do the right thing by creating additional registration centers to make the exercise with ease for prospective new voters in the ongoing limited voter registration.
He made this statement, on the SIMPIESO political show on Ahotor FM in Accra. He opined that, the government must be very careful in the ongoing exercise, since this can affect the NPP in the 2024 election.
