The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has found herself without official accommodation due to the stalled renovation of the Minister’s Residency, which began almost three years ago. The contractor abandoned the site due to lack of funds, leaving the visitors’ lodge, presidential lodge, and Deputy Minister’s residency in a state of disrepair.
The Minister has been forced to rent a private accommodation at her own expense, opting not to burden the taxpayer with the cost of a hotel. Amoako Godfred, Head of Works at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, confirmed that the project stalled due to lack of funds, as the contractor was not provided with the necessary mobilization.
The situation highlights the challenges faced by the Eastern Regional Minister, who has been in office since February 4, 2025. The Minister’s Residency, which is supposed to serve as the official residence, remains uncompleted, and the surrounding facilities are in a state of neglect.
Meanwhile, the parks and gardens department, responsible for maintaining the residency’s grounds, lacks staff and equipment, resulting in an overgrown and bushy environment.
The Minister has summoned the contractor to a meeting to expedite the reconstruction of the official residence.
