Eastern Region Wake-Up: NAGRAT Hails GHC 3,800 Fines in Teacher Attack Case

The Eastern Regional Chairman of NAGRAT, Godwin Yevu Awoonor, has praised the Kade District Court’s decision to fine four students GHC 3,800 each for assaulting a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School (SHTS). Speaking on the judgment, Awoonor described it as a strong deterrent that sends a clear message to students across the region. He highlighted the breakdown of the fine GHC 1,800 payable to the court and GHC 2,000 directly to the victim as a fair measure of justice.

Awoonor emphasized the court’s additional directive requiring the students to sign a bond, which binds them to good behavior. “This means they will face further judgment if such incidents recur, he stated, underscoring the long-term accountability it imposes. He expressed particular happiness over the ruling, noting it reinforces respect for educators in the classroom.

The NAGRAT leader believes the verdict will positively shape the students’ lives by instilling discipline early. He urged parents to play a more active role in advising their children on responsibility and the consequences of misconduct. This judgment is a wake-up call for all stakeholders in education,” Awoonor added.

Awoonor called on school authorities, parents, and communities to use this case as a teaching moment, promoting a culture of mutual respect in schools. He reaffirmed NAGRAT’s commitment to protecting teachers’ rights and welfare amid rising indiscipline. The incident at Kade SHTS underscores ongoing challenges in maintaining order in Ghanaian secondary schools.
