Eastern region: Tensions high at Anweaso over disappearance of 25-year-old woman

There is an uneasy calm within the Muslim community at Anweaso in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region following the mysterious disappearance of a young lady.

25-year-old Danjuma Laliatu went missing after a confrontation with a man, Kwadwo Ahenfie, over a farm boundary dispute on October 7, 2024.

According to family members, the young woman returned home from her farm on October 7 with multiple injuries, alleging she had been attacked by Kwadwo Ahenfie, who shares a boundary with her farm.

Laliatu narrated that she fought back and managed to escape, sustaining several injuries in the process losing her wrist beads which got torn during the altercation, but despite her injuries, she later decided to return to the farm to retrieve her belongings but never returned home.

Even though the suspect, Kwadwo Ahenfie, was arrested by the Akwatia Police on October 8, he was released the same day and his family threw a party for him, a situation which has further angered the family and friends of the missing young lady.

A family spokesperson who is also an uncle of the missing lady Alidu Issah addressing the press at the family house in Akwatia expressing their disappointment in the local police called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the mysterious disappearance of their daughter.

“We were at Bodua when we heard that our daughter had a fight with a gentleman called Kwadwo in her farm and has been badly injured. We proceeded to the scene after lodging complaints with the police and traditional authority, an announcement was made and the youth organised a search party where we saw evidence at the scene of the incident and took pictures but did not locate our daughter.

“Later at the police station the gentleman in question admitted assaulting our daughter at the farm and the police decided to detain him but to our surprise he was released the same day and his family took him on a parade celebrating his release.

“We are disappointed in the police for releasing the suspect so easily. We want the IGP to take over this case and launch a proper investigation,” said a frustrated family member”.
