ACCRA, Ghana, 12th October: The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, says the Authority has renegotiated its service-level agreement for roadworthy certificates, reducing the cost from a projected US$155.4 million over three years to GH¢2 million for the 2026-2028 period.
According to him, the previous agreement carried an annual commitment of US$51.8 million between 2023 and 2025, amounting to US$155.4 million over the three-year period.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, October 12, 2026, Mr Kotey said management reviewed the agreement and negotiated a significantly lower cost as part of efforts to strengthen financial accountability and reduce expenditure.
“Instead of paying $51.8 million annually, summing up to $155.4 million for three years, we are now paying 2 million Ghana cedis for the three years,” he said.
The DVLA CEO said the renegotiation would result in savings of approximately US$50 million annually.
He described the move as part of broader reforms aimed at improving the Authority’s financial management and ensuring public resources are used efficiently.
