“Dr. Omane Boamah’s Leadership Will End Military Intimidation of civilians and During Elections – Mahdi Jibril”

Deputy Director of Elections and I.T for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Jibril, has shared his thoughts on the vetting of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, expressing great satisfaction with his performance.

Speaking to Citizen Kofi Owusu on Ahotor FM, Mahdi Jibril remarked that Dr. Omane Boamah’s exceptional performance during his vetting was no surprise to him, as it reflected only a fraction of his capabilities.

He noted that since Dr. Omane Boamah assumed his role as a party officer, he has demonstrated remarkable leadership qualities, which were evident during the vetting process. According to Jibril, the discipline and professionalism Dr. Omane Boamah brings to his work make him a transformative figure. He believes that, under Dr. Omane Boamah’s leadership, the era of military excesses during elections may come to an end.

Jibril emphasized that incidents where the military intimidates civilians or intervenes unnecessarily in election-related activities will be a thing of the past. “We often say the military is a disciplined institution, but this time, we will witness an even more disciplined leadership. No military personnel will misbehave again under his watch,” he said.

Addressing the reactions of the Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Jibril claimed that Afenyo-Markin is worried about the impact Dr. Omane Boamah’s leadership will have on future elections.

According to Jibril, Afenyo-Markin has relied on the military to intimidate voters in Effutu during past elections to maintain his hold on power. However, with Dr. Omane Boamah now in charge of military affairs, Jibril believes such tactics will no longer work.

He further alleged that Afenyo-Markin’s unease stems from the realization that his prospects for re-election in 2028 are slim. “The sadness he exhibited yesterday is because he knows that the person who helped the NPP secure victory in 2024 was the Defense Minister. Now, with Dr. Omane Boamah in charge, Afenyo-Markin sees his chances of returning to Parliament in 2028 slipping away. That is why he is acting out,” Jibril concluded.

The NDC’s confidence in Dr. Omane Boamah’s leadership appears unwavering, with Mahdi Jibril expressing optimism that his appointment will enhance discipline, fairness, and professionalism in the country’s democratic processes.
