Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the immediate past National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has heaped praise on Abraham Koomson, the Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, describing him as a man of exceptional integrity, selflessness, and dedication to the nation.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show with host Nana Dogbe, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo recounted Mr. Koomson’s long-standing contributions to Ghana’s labor sector, particularly his impactful work in the textile industry.
“Abraham Koomson is a senior colleague and a seasoned unionist. I remember in the late 1990s when Akosombo Textiles Limited faced significant challenges, Mr. Koomson traveled from Accra to help resolve the issues. His experience and dedication to the labor force are unparalleled,” Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo remarked. “I can vouch for his integrity. He has consistently prioritized nationalism and patriotism over personal gain.”
A Legacy of Selflessness
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo emphasized Mr. Koomson’s selflessness, highlighting that his unwavering commitment to integrity could have easily been traded for personal wealth.
“If Abraham Koomson had chosen personal interest, he would have been extraordinarily wealthy by now. However, there are individuals like him who choose to live and die with honor and integrity rather than pursue riches,” he said.
He went further to underscore the importance of celebrating individuals like Mr. Koomson, whose tireless efforts have shaped the nation’s labor landscape.
“Someone like Abraham Koomson deserves to be honored in his lifetime and beyond. My hope is that when his time comes, the Ghana flag will be draped over his coffin as a testament to his service to the nation. But we shouldn’t wait for his passing to celebrate him. People like him deserve recognition while they are still alive,” Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo asserted.

Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo noted Mr. Koomson’s resilience and unshakable faith in Ghana, commending his enduring commitment to the country’s progress.
“Abraham Koomson has fought with his life for this country. His resilience and steadfast commitment to Ghana are inspiring. He has remained a beacon of hope and integrity in the labor movement,” he said.

The former NDC Chairman called for national recognition of individuals who have dedicated their lives to selfless service, urging Ghanaians to appreciate their contributions before it is too late.
“Let us celebrate Abraham Koomson and others like him who have given so much for our country. While we may not have silver and gold to reward them, we can offer our gratitude and encouragement for their work for Mother Ghana,” Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo concluded.
