Dr Kenneth Ashigbey Advocates for Alternative Solution to Combat Illegal Mining

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey’s holistic approach to tackling illegal mining in Ghana is quite comprehensive.

He proposes a multi-faceted strategy that involves *Reinforcing Laws*, *Collaboration*, and *Addressing Root Causes*.

This approach is aligned with international efforts to combat illicit mining, such as the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

To further address the issue, some experts suggest Streamlining Licensing Procedures, implementing Comprehensive Mine Closure Plans, and Tackling Smuggling.

These strategies could help prevent illegal mining activities and promote sustainable mining practices.

Additionally, Investing in Technology to monitor illegal mining operations and Providing Miners with the Tools to Operate Legally and Sustainably  could also be effective solutions.

These approaches would require collaboration between the government, private sector, and local communities.

Overall, it’s clear that a holistic approach is necessary to combat illegal mining in Ghana.

By addressing the root causes of the issue and implementing a combination of these strategies, Ghana can promote sustainable mining practices and reduce the environmental and social impacts of illegal mining.
