Dr. George Domfeh Backs President Mahama’s Poultry Project

President Mahama’s poultry farming initiative is indeed a promising step towards creating jobs and boosting local production.

As Dr. George Domfeh, a Development Economist at the University of Ghana, pointed out, Ghana’s annual poultry imports are substantial, and unfortunately, these imported poultry products are often chemically preserved.

The initiative aims to revamp the poultry industry by incentivizing farmers and promoting local consumption under the “Made-in-Ghana” agenda.

This includes rolling out a “Poultry Farm to Table” project to boost poultry production in collaboration with Poultry Farmers Associations.

By supporting local poultry farming, Ghana can reduce its reliance on imports, create employment opportunities, especially for the youth, and provide consumers with organic, chemical-free chicken.

As Dr. Domfeh emphasized, proper implementation is crucial to the success of this initiative.

It’s also worth noting that President Mahama has shown commitment to agriculture and food security through various initiatives, including the “Broiler Production Cooperatives” project, which aims to involve 160,000 rural women in poultry farming.
