Douglas Owusu Completes €2.7m Move to Red Star Belgrade

Douglas Owusu, the nineteen-year-old Ghanaian forward, completed his medical examinations yesterday and has now officially signed a three-year contract with Serbian powerhouse Red Star Belgrade.

The transfer fee has been confirmed at two point seven million euros, with his previous club, FK Radnik Surdulica, retaining a fifteen percent sell-on clause for any future transfer.

While some earlier reports mentioned a slightly lower figure of around two point two million euros, the final agreed amount stands at the higher valuation, marking one of the more significant domestic transfers in recent Serbian Super Liga history.

Widely known by the nickname “Baggio” in reference to the iconic Italian playmaker, Owusu has quickly built a reputation as an exciting talent. This season alone he scored seven goals in twenty league appearances for Radnik, showcasing his ability to make a direct impact in the final third.

Blessed with exceptional speed, he regularly leaves defenders trailing in his wake. Beyond his pace, what truly sets him apart is his combination of outstanding vision, natural creativity in tight spaces, and a genuine eye for goal, allowing him to both create high-quality chances for teammates and finish opportunities himself.

Several European clubs had monitored his progress throughout the campaign, with interest reported from Feyenoord, Viktoria Plzeň, Aris, Samsunspor, Al Ahli, and KVC Westerlo among others. Negotiations with some of those sides ultimately stalled—most notably over salary expectations in the case of Plzeň—but Red Star moved decisively to secure the young attacker.

For the Belgrade giants, the signing represents a clear statement of intent to invest in high-potential youth as they continue their pursuit of domestic dominance and stronger performances on the European stage. Owusu is expected to add dynamism, flair, and goal threat to an already potent forward line.
