Double Debut Delight: Bonsu Baah and Benjamin Asare Earn First Black Stars Call-Ups for World Cup Qualifiers

Ghana coach Otto Addo makes new additions to his squad ahead of Chad and Madagascar FIFA World Cup qualifiers starting next week, Friday, March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana’s Black Stars team has just gotten a boost with the debut call-ups of Christopher Bonsu Baah and Benjamin Asare for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. Both players made the cut for Otto Addo’s 23-man squad and they’re eager to prove themselves on the international stage.

Christopher Bonsu Baah, a winger for Genk, has been on fire in the 2024/25 season, with three goals and three assists in 19 starts. His impressive performance has helped Genk top the Jupiler Pro League table.

Not bad for a player who initially struggled in Belgium. His speed, skill, and determination on the pitch have made him a fan favorite, and Ghanaian fans are excited to see him bring that energy to the yet to be rejuvenated national team.

Asare, on the other hand, has been a rock for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League, with 12 clean sheets in 20 games.

His stellar performance has contributed significantly to the club’s resurgence in the title race. Asare’s impressive reflexes, shot-stopping ability, and leadership at the back have made him one of the top goalkeepers in the league, and his call-up to the national team is well-deserved.

These two players will be looking to secure a permanent spot in the national team as Ghana takes on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21 and then faces Madagascar in Morocco on March 24. The Black Stars will be counting on their skills and determination to help secure crucial wins in the World Cup qualifiers.

With the eyes of the nation on them, Bonsu Baah and Asare are ready to rise to the challenge and make their mark on the international stage.

Despite Ghana’s abysmal show in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers where it failed to make to Morocco later this year, head coach Otto Addo is rather having a brighter outlook in Group I of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He has amassed three wins and draw and jointly top the group with nine points  as same as Comoros.

The other group opponents are Madagascar with seven points, Mali with five points, Central Africa Republic with four points and Chad with no point languishing at the bottom of the table.
