Former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo has commended President John Dramani Mahama for taking decisive action against non-compliant public officials during his tenure. Domelevo praised Mahama’s bold policy of deducting three months’ salary from appointees who failed to declare their assets as required by law.
According to Domelevo, the move was a rare show of political will that sent a strong message about accountability and transparency in public service.
He emphasized that such measures are necessary to uphold the integrity of governance and build public trust.
By holding his appointees accountable, President Mahama demonstrated that asset declaration is not just a formality but a tool to fight corruption.
Mr. Domelevo said actions like this deter others and reinforce the seriousness of our laws.”
He called on future leaders to adopt similar measures, stressing that without enforcement, anti-corruption laws are rendered meaningless.
Domelevo urged a renewed national commitment to asset transparency, suggesting that regular audits and public disclosure of declarations would further strengthen the system.
