DISTANCE AWUTU MAMPONG FROM OKADA MURDER CASE – ODIKRO CLARIFIES

Awutu Mampong, November 27, 2025 – The Odikro of Awutu Mampong, Nai Kwame Pobie, has publicly refuted recent social media reports alleging a murder linked to the community. He emphatically stated that there has been no such incident within his kingdom and urged the public and media to dissociate Awutu Mampong from these false claims.

According to Nai Kwame Pobie, none of his subjects were involved in the purported killing of an Okada (motorcycle taxi) rider by armed men, an event in which social media circulated widely. He further clarified that local residents themselves confronted and reportedly killed the two alleged armed robbers involved in a separate incident, but this occurrence did not take place within the Awutu Mampong jurisdiction

In response to the rumours, Nai Kwame Pobie immediately directed his aides to conduct a thorough investigation and verify the details within the community boundaries. Despite these efforts, no evidence or confirmation of such a murder has been found. “All the young men who operate Okada services in Awutu Mampong and neighbouring communities are safe and accounted for. Nobody has reported the loss of a relative linked to this alleged incident,” the Odikro affirmed.

His press secretary, John Larbie, echoed the chief’s sentiments, pointing out they have received numerous calls seeking clarity on the story. John Larbie expressed surprise at how a baseless narrative could gain traction and cause unnecessary alarm within the community and beyond.

Prior to reaching out to Odikro, efforts were made to verify the story through various local sources, many of whom expressed shock at the false reports. A personal visit to the area revealed no evidence supporting the claims, with some members of the community even taking it upon themselves to contact known Okada operators to confirm their safety.

While addressing the misinformation, Nai Kwame Pobie also took the opportunity to highlight genuine challenges facing Awutu Mampong. Key issues include an incomplete community centre project, a malfunctioning mechanized borehole water system, and outdated toilet facilities. The Odikro urged stakeholders and authorities to focus resources and attention on addressing these pressing needs rather than spreading harmful rumours.

Nai Kwame Pobie concluded with a strong appeal for peace and unity, advising residents and the general public to refrain from engaging in or spreading falsehoods that could disturb the harmony Awutu Mampong and Ghanaians at large currently enjoy. He emphasized the importance of supporting constructive projects that enhance the well-being of the community.
