ACCRA, Ghana, 19th November,2025: President John Dramani Mahama has charged Ghana’s newly sworn-in Ambassadors and High Commissioners to shift their focus toward economic transformation, national development, and strategic international engagement as they assume their posts around the world.
Speaking at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, November 19, President Mahama underscored that the modern practice of diplomacy has evolved far beyond traditional ceremonies and formalities.
He stressed that the envoys now carry a direct responsibility to support Ghana’s economic recovery and growth through meaningful international collaboration.
Addressing the diplomats, the President noted: “Ladies and gentlemen, diplomacy today is no longer confined to protocol, representation and champagne drinking. It is a crucial instrument for national development. Your mandate is to help deliver growth at home through effective engagement abroad.”
He reminded them that every action they take on foreign soil must be tied to Ghana’s broader agenda for economic renewal and transformation.
“Every meeting you hold, every partnership you pursue, every investor you convince must be aimed at contributing to Ghana’s transformation. You are expected to facilitate increased trade and market access for Ghana, attract sustainable investment into strategic areas such as agriculture, manufacturing, energy, technology and health, promote tourism and Ghana’s cultural heritage, facilitate technology transfer and innovation and support Ghanaian businesses seeking opportunities abroad and also provide efficient consular services to Ghanaian citizens living outside the country,” he stated.
President Mahama further emphasised that Ghana’s missions abroad must become dynamic centres of economic diplomacy.
“Our missions must operate as vibrant centers for economic diplomacy. Each embassy must function as a hub of opportunity, connecting Ghana to global markets, knowledge and capital. You are assuming office at a crucial moment in our nation’s journey,” he added.
Highlighting his administration’s RESET Agenda, he explained that Ghana is rebuilding confidence in governance, strengthening public institutions, and laying a solid foundation for jobs and economic revitalisation. The envoys, he said, are essential partners in delivering on these national priorities.
“Through the RESET agenda, we are rebuilding confidence in governance, restoring discipline within public institutions and strengthening the foundation of growth and job creation. This agenda demands accountability, transparency and measurable results from all public officials, whether serving at home or abroad. As envoys of the Republic, you are key partners in this national renewal,” he stated.
